Water Scarcity and Its Impact on Industry: An Increasing Challenge for Global Businesses

Water scarcity is becoming one of the most pressing global challenges, with devastating impacts on many industries. The water crisis puts natural resources at risk and undermines the ability of industries to operate efficiently. More than 2 billion people worldwide live in areas of severe water scarcity, and industries, major consumers of this resource, are already facing increasing difficulties.

The Impact of Water Scarcity on Industrial Production

Industrial production relies heavily on water, which is used in processes such as metalworking, energy production, industrial agriculture, and consumer goods manufacturing. However, increasingly limited water supplies are forcing many industries to reconsider their production processes. Some businesses are compelled to reduce production or reorganize operations to reduce water consumption, leading to increased costs and impacts on competitiveness.

Climate Change and the Water Crisis: The Role of Industries

Climate change is exacerbating water scarcity, with extreme weather events such as droughts and floods altering water availability in many regions. Water resource management has therefore become a crucial issue for companies, which are being called upon to innovate and reduce consumption through the use of advanced technologies, optimizing water use, and using alternative sources such as desalination.

Sustainable Solutions to Address Water Scarcity in Industries

Italian industries, particularly those in the south, already affected by prolonged droughts, are seeking solutions to combat water shortages. Vulnerable sectors such as agriculture and food production are investing in water recycling plants to reduce extraction from natural resources and make their production processes more sustainable.

Collaboration Between the Private and Public Sectors for Sustainable Water Management

Addressing growing water scarcity requires an integrated approach involving governments, industries and citizens. Working together to ensure more efficient and sustainable use of water resources is essential if water is not to become an insurmountable obstacle to economic development. Commitment to sustainability must address not only the reduction of CO2 emissions, but also the responsible and rational management of water resources.

Commitment to Sustainability: Managing Water as a Precious Resource

Water is an increasingly scarce and expensive resource. For global industries, it is critical to invest in sustainable technologies, innovation, and water efficiency strategies to ensure continuity of operations and reduce the impact of water scarcity on costs and long-term competitiveness.

Integration of water treatment plant with softening and reverse osmosis system

After various research and development experiments, Dieffe has finally, in recent months, come up with a product that is growing in demand in the glass industry. We are talking about the reverse osmosis plant.

This type of system makes it possible through pressurised water filtration to guarantee excellent water quality. In the field of glass processing, this type of quality is very much in demand for industrial washing machines in particular. This system therefore allows the washing machine water to be almost totally recycled and also provides a higher quality than mains water, without having any impurities.

This system is combined with a water softener that removes limescale from mains water, reducing the problems of scaling and clogging of filters. The softener can also be integrated into the water treatment system used in cooling and spindles of processing machines.

The entire system is managed and monitored by control units that analyse the parameters of the circulating water in real time, for the control and intervention of filter regenerations; thus guaranteeing the efficiency of filtration always at the highest permitted levels.

Thanks to these products together with the already established cooling water treatment and spindle filtration systems, Dieffe is able to guarantee all the water requirements needed in glass processing.

All solutions are presented as standard, but are always followed up specifically for each system and customised to give the right system for every need.

World Water Day

Today is World Water Day, and there will be a UN conference on the subject in New York. The aim will be to raise awareness of consumption and thus reduce water wastage. Water is a primary good, water is life, water is the substance present in the highest percentage in living beings, in the Earth. Water that quenches thirst, water that extinguishes fire, water that cleans, water that irrigates.

But not only that

Water is also used in large quantities in industry, for various uses water is essential in various industrial production processes. For cooling, cutting, diluting, compounding. Water is used every day in large quantities in every sector.

We all use it every day, but are we aware if we are using it correctly? Are we even using it or wasting it?

Today Dieffe is supporting this day, with the hope that next year's waste figures will be lower. Every day a small step for improvement.

Installation of new centralised system

Installation of a DFL 250 A ID11 system in Bulgaria. This glass manufacturer recently built a new site where they installed new glass processing machinery. They chose a centralised water treatment system for their current machines and in anticipation of possible future machines. Using our proposal, they built all the channels that transport the waste water into one pit and the main line that feeds all the machines that require water. Translated with DeepL.com (free version)

The management and treatment of process waste water is not a simple problem for any industry.

Their requirements were a centralised system, an automatic cleaning system and clean water without the addition of chemicals.

Dieffe, con il suo sistema perfezionato per il trattamento e il riciclo dei fluidi di processo, è “funzionale e pulito”, ma con un’attenzione particolare al funzionamento “facile da usare”

Dieffe Macchine in Milan for Vitrum 2023

The Vitrum 2023 edition is over, the excitement and that dose of adrenaline that events of this type transmit are still palpable. What can I say, a success for Dieffe, whose main objective is always to build quality relationships.

Year after year, the exhibition space was enlarged, and this year we were also able to provide visitors with the DFL 150 A automatic discharge centrifuge model with self-cleaning technology. Also not to be missed was the entry level of our range, the DFL 100 M, which always stands out with its design, versatility and practicality.

Visitors from all over the world came to this event and presented their needs. Meeting all requirements is always a great challenge, especially compared to the past when, as a natural effect of technological progress, more and more details are added.

Always attentive to the needs of its partners, with passion and care, Dieffe sees this challenge as an opportunity to grow and improve, to reach the goal.

See you at Glasstech 2024!!!
